5 important life lessons from sport
From a young age I was mad about sport. When I wasn’t playing it I wanted to watch it. I may have also been the kid that mistook PE lessons at school for the Olympics. Through school and university participating in sport was a big part of my life and there have undoubtedly been some great life lessons from sport that have influenced how I now approach the world.
The majority of my time in sport at a young age was just at school, with clubs only featuring at a later stage. I wanted to make every school team and be as good at that sport as I possibly could — it was a part of my identity at the time. This led me down a path of football and rugby in the winter, and athletics (track & field) and cricket in the summer. The consistent sport for me has always been athletics where I continued to train and compete all throughout school and university.
Life lessons from sport
Competitive sport for me was a place of learning and improvement and I think is where I have developed my desire for every day growth. At the time it was just about enjoyment, and wanting to get faster, but it is the routines I developed that have led to the greatest impact on how I now do things.
There are 5 life lessons from sport that stand out to me from my experience. I will walk you through each of them. All lessons are related to my time in athletics but could translate across all sports.
