5 mental models for a better life
How often do you think about how you think about the world? I am guessing not very often. How often do you think about how you approach different situations? This is probably more common. Now, what if you had a set of mental models that you could use to approach problems, explain outcomes or help you predict what might happen? This is exactly what Gabriel Weinberg and Lauren McCann do in their book ‘Superthinking: the big book of mental models’.
For those of you unfamiliar with the term ‘mental model’, it is simply an explanation of your thought process about how something works. Superthinking shares and explains hundreds of mental models for you to use in your life. Having recently read Superthinking I wanted to share with you my top five mental models from the book:
1 The Eisenhower Decision Matrix
The Eisenhower Decision Matrix helps you to prioritize everything that you have to do. This includes anything from both work and your personal life. By categorizing them in this matrix, you will see what is both urgent and important, as well as the non-urgent and unimportant. This mental model resonates with me in that it links very closely to the principles of essentialism — do more by doing less.
