How to focus in a distracted world

You could be doing so many things. It is hard to focus. I feel it too. The distraction of life from goals you are pursuing. For me, taking the day off, however, is not a luxury I have in that 5 days a week I need to concentrate at work.

The pandemic may have you more stressed, anxious or even overwhelmed, and, for sure, this will impact your focus. The past couple of years has brought additional challenges to maintaining discipline and sticking to your planned schedule.

Building an environment for focus

As I stated in the art of working from home, I have a separate space for work. This is where I do anything that requires my brain to be switched on. I read, I write and do any learning in my home ‘office’. Whenever I enter this room, it causes a reaction in me that focuses my attention on doing something that advances a goal, or a piece of work I am doing.

You might be thinking that you don’t have the luxury of separate work and living spaces… in this instance I would suggest creating somewhere in your home that is dedicated as where you switch on. This might be a particular seat at the dining table, it could be a corner of a room that you move a coffee table to. What it shouldn’t be is a place that you relax. Create that connection in your brain that you are there to concentrate.
