Lessons from learning in public
How often do you procrastinate on an idea because you don’t feel ready? Or spend all of your time planning when instead you could be implementing? Ideas are worthless if they remain ideas. It is the implementation of your ideas, or action you take that gets you that step closer to where you would like to be. To take the leap can be scary but it is the process of learning as you go along, or learning in public that gives you actionable metrics and feedback from the world.
Sharing your thoughts to the world
When starting the blog I had to overcome the barrier of letting myself be seen. I don’t like being the centre of attention and typically didn’t use social media; I certainly didn’t share much information about my thought process or ideas outside of a small circle of people. When I launched the blog, I did not feel ready but it is often at the point where you have produced something, even if it is the first effort that getting feedback and putting it out there is needed. It is a process which enables you to start learning in public. In ‘The $100 Startup’, Chris Guillebeau outlines a six step process to getting started right now. I have adapted the process slightly to relate to a learning process rather than starting a business:
- Decide what it is you want to share
- Set up a forum to share…
