The future of work is global
Picture the scene… it’s January 2020 on a weekday, in the office. Everywhere you go there is interaction with people, physical meetings and in some cases, the thought of working from home seemed, well, impossible. That was considered ‘normal’. Fast forward to March 2020 and the needs of the world changed. Now, what has been termed ‘the new normal’ means working at home, hours spent on video calls, and in some cases home schooling going on in the background. When you think of the future workplace, which do you see?
The future workplace: an individual choice?
For some people, working at home has been a dream. Having only scheduled interaction has provided more control over your time as an individual, and removed unnecessary office distractions in the process. This creates the ability to focus and cultivate deep work more regularly, that is if you are able to remove distractions at home…
Others have missed constant interaction, and bouncing off people on a daily basis. The moments of getting coffee with a colleague are where teams build rapport, and can be an important factor in whether you enjoy your job or not. The office though, can be prone to constant interruption and decreased productivity.
Both scenarios have pros and cons. The reality is that we no longer need to be in an office 5 days a week. We can work remotely and still do our jobs, and for some it means delivering higher output. That doesn’t mean we should just stay remote. It is an individual…
